Why was Girls Boardrider Fraternity started?
The Girls Boardrider Fraternity was started because there really wasn’t a boardriders club on the Northern Beaches that specifically encouraged girls and women of all ages and abilities.  The club was incorporated in 2014 and is a club that fosters a fun and supportive community of surfing girls and women.

What is the mission of GBF?
To provide a safe and non-threatening environment for surfing girls and women of all ages and ability that focuses on fun and some friendly competition.
Why join GBF?
One of the most common things we hear from Girls and Women who are surfing is that they find it hard to find others to surf with who are of similar ability, which prevents them from getting in the water as often as they would like and also progressing.  This is one of the main reasons to join GBF.  When you join GBF you join a like-minded community and can make friends and connections with other surfers.
We meet once a month and compete.  Competitions are very friendly and casual and it’s a good opportunity to paddle for as many waves as you can which all helps you progress.
There are also a lot of other benefits for members.  For example we recently ran an on-land coaching session with Smoothstar skateboards for our members.   At our recent open day we had a raffle with prizes contributed by Manly Surf School and High Performance Surf Centre, Chix Surf School, Surf Collective, Aloha Manly and Atmosea wet suits who have also offered members exclusive discounts.
We also get together socially and have had two surf trip weekends away this year with more planned.

Is GBF open to beginners as well as experienced surfers?
It sure is!  We welcome all abilities… it’s about sharing the stoke and the joy of surfing not becoming WSL champions!
How often do you meet?
We meet once a month (usually the second Sunday) at Freshwater Beach at 7am.  The location and Sunday can change pending conditions.  Anyone is free to come along and check it out, you don’t have to be a member first.  The best way to stay on top of meet dates and locations is to join or facebook or instagram page for updates.

How do you join?
You can come along to a meet and complete a membership form there, or you can download our membership form online
